Whether restoring traditional buildings, or creating something contemporary - these 3D sculpted facade elements and panels are lightweight, highly customisable and can be used independently or easily combined with any other facade material. Made from a perlite-based material Verolith, this system is available as standard architectural profiles or bespoke designs, precision-cut using state of the art computer-aided CNC manufacturing processes. This allows existing details to be either reproduced or new three dimensional elements, patterns, textures or graphics to be created within the material. Our team will advise on how to create even large scale almost seamless facade elements.

Products and systems vary from location to location due to local building regulations and standards. We strongly advise you to contact your local expert who will be happy to consult you on standards and approval.

    Obsidian & perlite

Perlite is a 100 % natural raw material that forms when the volcanic rock obsidian is exposed to weather conditions. We use a purely thermal expansion method to turn this raw material into a granulate form of Verolith®. Pressure and heat are applied to create blank workpieces which are available as standard in formats up to 240 cm in length, up to 120 cm in width, and up to 10 cm thick. We use the very latest CNC methods to turn the workpieces into sculptural shapes, ledges, and panels which meet your exact specifications.

    Beauty that creates lasting value

Whether trying to restore an original colour or stone texture, or taking a totally new aesthetic direction, Sto's range of surface materials for facade designs allow true creative freedom. StoDeco facade elements are bonded to the facade before a primer and two coats of facade paint are applied. The choice of facade paint will vary depending on the project requirements.

For applications that require the finished texture to mimic natural stone, a primer with silicate sand can be applied prior to the finishing coats of paint in a range of stone colours, or any other colour you like from the StoColor System.

Enhanced performance with innovative coatings & additives

The StoDeco perlite-based material is always coated with a protective finish to minimise the long-term impact of extreme weather, moisture, algae and fungus. This allows the sculpted details and panels to be specified in either complementing or contrasting colours and finishes, depending on the project requirements:

    • StoColor Dryonic - protect from algae & fungus
    • StoColor Photosan - break down airborne pollutants
    • StoColor X-Black - prevent solar-related cracking & discolouring
    • StoColor Lotusan - hydrophobic surface to keep the surface cleaner

'One Thing After Another' and Sto Verolith

Studio director Sam Jacob and architect Eddie Blake describe the design processes behind 'One Thing After Another', an installation at StoWerkstatt that explored the use of Sto Verolith within a digital design process. The installation investigates the possibilities of digital production that go beyond the blandly futuristic and suggests how new technologies can open up a wide array of design possibilities that embrace process, imperfection, narrative and history.

"What really fascinated us was the possibility to try and essentially take a piece of architecture through a digital process and output it again." - Sam Jacob, Director at Sam Jacob Studio
